$748 Charged On Credit Card Stolen From Woman's Purse At Stop & Shop, Darien Police Say

Nearly a thousand dollars was charged on a credit card after a purse was lost during a supermarket stop in Fairfield County, police said.

A woman from Darien reported to police that between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, she was inside the Stop & Shop on Heights Road, at which point she realized that her purse was not in her pocketbook.

According to police, the purse had $50 in cash, her driver’s license, and bank cards.

When the woman arrived home, she called her banks to cancel the missing cards, at which point it was determined that her cards had been used multiple times to the tune of $748 fraudulent charges.

Police said that the woman was unable to determine when exactly her purse may have gone missing. The incident is currently under investigation - check Daily Voice for updates.
